KCSD Celebrates Conclusion of Three Summer Programs
Hooray for summer learning! On Friday, July 29, KCSD celebrated the conclusion of three of its summer programs: Elementary (Grades K-3) at JFK, Middle (Grades 4-7) at Miller, and Summer 9 (for incoming Grade 9 students) at KHS.
At JFK, students prepared to “bounce” with the help of two bouncy houses. Their day was chock full of fun activities, including a (temporary) tattoo parlor, henna painting, and s’mores breaks!
At Miller, students bid “Aloha,” which can be both a greeting and a farewell, with a Hawaiian-themed party. Sporting luau-themed accessories, like leis, they played beach ball games, wrote postcards, and posted messages on a gratitude board.
At KHS, students released some energy with a variety of staff/student kickball games in the gym, then cooled down with frozen treats from Benny’s Tropical Ice, served by the owner (and KHS student!) Kamir Hylton-Jackson.
Students from all three programs finished their day with BBQ feasts, complete with burgers served up by grill-master Chef Dave!
Big thanks to all the summer principals, teachers, staff, and community partners who filled these programs with unique learning opportunities and unforgettable summer fun.
