Class of 2021 Valedictorian and Salutatorian!
The Kingston City School District is excited to announce the Valedictorian and Salutatorian for the Class of 2021!
Jason Chen is the Valedictorian with a high school GPA of 104.95.
Jason grew up in KCSD, attending Edson Elementary School and JW Bailey Middle School before moving on to Kingston High School. After graduation, Jason plans to attend MIT to study Physics and Electrical Engineering on a full-tuition scholarship. He was also accepted at Caltech and Yale.
While at KHS, Jason has been involved in the KHS Tiger Marching Band (section leader), Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Science Olympiads Team (president), Academic WorldQuest Team (vice-president), Robotics Team (secretary), and the Math and Mock Trial Teams.
Jason has worked throughout high school, at both a part-time job at Wiltwyck Country Club and full-time at his family’s laundromat over the summers. What really keeps him busy is the course load he takes each year.
He did not go easy his senior year in order to earn as many college credits as possible. His classes include Multivariable Calculus (an online class at Stanford), AP Physics C: Mechanics, AP Chemistry, AP Computer Science A, AP Computer Science Principles, AP English Literature, AP Macroeconomics, AP US Government & Politics, College Science Research, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Ensemble.
Jason has some words of wisdom for younger students: “Develop a support network for yourself early in high school. Find friends to do homework together and teachers you really connect with for support. Life isn’t a one-person struggle, and neither should high school be.”
Andrew Hill is the Class of 2021 Salutatorian with a GPA of 103.17.
Andrew is also a life-long student of KCSD having attended Zena Elementary School and Miller Middle School. This fall, Andrew will attend Cornell University, majoring in Biological Sciences to focus on his two passions: the environment and recreational fishing.
As a runner, Andrew is a member of the Cross Country and Indoor and Outdoor Track teams. He is also on the Math Team, in Spanish Honor Society and Class of 2021 Treasurer. For his senior year, he is also taking many college-credit classes. His schedule includes AP Calculus BC, AP Macroeconomics, Civics, College Spanish II, AP Computer Science Principles, AP Literature, Physics H, and Physical Education.
Outside of school, Andrew volunteers at a local food pantry and with the NY State Department of Environmental Conservation.
Andrew reminds his fellow KHS Tigers to “enjoy high school before it’s over…it goes by faster than you think”.
Fun fact: Jason and Andrew have been back and forth as #1 and #2 in GPA for the Class of 2021 since their freshman year.
Congratulations to these two remarkable young men!!
