KCSD Welcomes New Transportation Supervisor

The Kingston City School District is excited to introduce the community to Ms. Ashonda Boyd, the newest addition to our team who joins KCSD as the Supervisor of Transportation.

Ms. Boyd enters the district with 16 years of experience in Transportation, starting her career in 2004 as a Bus Driver for the Lakeland Central School District that services students in both Westchester and Putnam Counties. In 2008 she advanced into a Dispatcher position with Lakeland Central Schools that was transporting approximately 7500 students to 65 schools daily.

Her years of dispatching continued and she went on to other school districts, like Washingtonville and Beacon, but it was time to advance again, ultimately leading her to Kingston. Ms. Boyd is now responsible for KCSD’s Transportation Department that coordinates bus routes and schedules, dispatches transportation, and fields hundreds of busing inquiries and calls for the district, local special education programs, and out-of-district private and parochial schools. She is also the main contact working directly with the five bus contractors that provide buses and drivers to Kingston City Schools.

KCSD’s Transportation Department is responsible for approximately 69 bus routes spanning the area from Ulster and Dutchess, to Orange and Westchester Counties. In a typical year, there are nearly 6500 students riding a bus. Although Kingston is smaller than Ms. Boyd’s largest district she’s worked with, the transportation need is quite similar by the number of routes. It’s a big job. The charge of managing an intricate multi-tiered transportation system (buses transporting to multiple locations) is a role that few can take on. Ms. Boyd is undoubtedly well-suited for the position and has hit the ground running - or “rolling” - since mid-December.

Ms. Boyd is excited to join the Kingston City School District. “I am looking forward to learning about the city, the students, and the schools that we transport to,” Ms. Boyd stated.  “I look forward to brainstorming innovative ideas with my team to facilitate routing students safely and efficiently and creating a strong foundation for communication with the staff and the contractors.”
