Myer Elementary Welcomes New Principal

The Kingston City School District is very proud to welcome Mrs. Erin Nelson as the new Principal of Ernest C. Myer Elementary School. Mrs. Nelson was first announced as the new leader during the Board of Education meeting held on September 18 and will officially begin her role on October 15, 2019.

Erin will join Myer with an extensive background in education with the KCSD, starting her career as a Middle School Science Teacher at both M. C. Miller and J. Watson Bailey. Her 16 years of teaching led her to expand her career and earn a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Educational Leadership, ultimately landing her the position as an Assistant Principal at Bailey for the 2018-2019 school year.

Mrs. Nelson has a drive and passion for giving students a well-rounded education and leads with the belief that the power of presence yields informed decision-making and builds a community of shared vision and trust. “Just as teachers create the conditions for learning within their classrooms, the principal creates the conditions for learning within the school,” she stated. “As principal, it is my responsibility and calling to cultivate a positive school climate that is intellectually stimulating for everyone and fosters optimal conditions for student learning.”

Mrs. Nelson has had two of her three children attend and move-up from Myer with her youngest child lined up to be an Eagle in the next few years. She is very familiar with the Myer community and culture, as well as the unofficial school motto that “kindness is everything” and will continue to promote the theme of kindness in all school activities. She looks forward to building relationships and getting to know the strengths of every student and adult in the school community and wants Myer to be the best it can be. Mrs. Nelson advises her students to “be kind, read a lot, and always do your best!”
