KCSD Welcomes Interim Principal at Myer Elementary
The Kingston City School District welcomes a familiar face to Ernest C. Myer Elementary, reintroducing Ms. JoEllen Gibbons as the Interim Principal to start the 2019-2020 school year.
The search for Myer’s principal began over the summer once Mrs. LoBianco was reassigned to lead George Washington Elementary after Valerie Hannum retired. As the KCSD continues the search for a permanent principal at Myer, Ms. Gibbons will hold the spot with over 36 years of experience with the district.
JoEllen started her career with the KCSD as a Spanish teacher before moving up as the Curriculum Supervisor of Foreign Language and ESL. She advanced to become the Principal at Myer Elementary, followed by leading Edson Elementary School as Principal. She was then hired as the Director of Elementary Education before taking on her final role as the Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education. In her 36th year serving the district, Ms. Gibbons decided it was time to retire from a very successful and rewarding career. However, retirement didn’t keep her away very long when she returned as the interim Principal of Chambers Elementary in 2016.
Ms. Gibbons is a Myer Elementary alumna and will lead the Eagles for as long as she is needed. She looks forward to working with students again and kicking off the school year. “The opening of school is such a magical time, it sets the stage for the entire school year,” she stated. “Working with teachers, staff and parents to make this happen is exciting and invigorating. It is special to be able to ‘come back to my roots.’"
