School Improvement Plans
The Kingston City School District is identified as a Target District for the 2023-24 school year by the New York State Department of Education (NYSED).
New York State’s new accountability system is designed to identify where schools and districts need support to improve and to recognize successes. The new system is completely revised and builds upon the former system to go beyond just student test scores. Schools and districts receive a rating score for “All Students” and other subgroups in each school and district based on specific indicators. The subgroups consist of racial and ethnic groups, low-income, students with disabilities, and English language learners.
New York State’s accountability system identifies two types of schools needing support:
Comprehensive Support & Improvement (CSI) – based on all students’ performance, these schools are among the lowest performing in NYS and identified every three years
Target Support & Improvement (TSI) - based on each subgroup’s performance, these schools are among the lowest performing in NYS and identified annually
Districts are identified as Target Districts because of the identification of CSI and/or TSI schools in the district and if the district’s performance data on the specific indicators meet the identification criteria for any subgroup.
The Kingston City School District is committed to ensuring that all students succeed in school no matter who they are, where they live, where they go to school or where they come from. The District is working with all schools and our school improvement process to respond to this information including taking steps to increase student and parent participation in decision-making. Please contact your school principal if you have any questions.
