Update on Bell Schedule and Transportation Plans for 2026–2027

Update on Bell Schedule and Transportation Plans for 2026–2027

Dear KCSD Community,

We are writing to provide an important update regarding the proposed bell schedule and transportation changes that were under consideration for the 2026–2027 school year.

Over the past several months, the district has explored revisions to school start and dismissal times, along with corresponding bus route adjustments, as part of our ongoing efforts to address rising student transportation costs. Throughout this process, we have heard valuable feedback from families, students, staff, and community members regarding the potential impact of these changes.

After careful review, we have determined that the scope and complexity of the proposed bell schedule changes require additional planning and community engagement before implementation. As a result, KCSD will not be changing school bell schedules for the upcoming 2026–2027 school year. This includes no change to activity period and extended day programming at the middle schools.

We recognize the concerns that were raised and believe it is important to take the time necessary to fully evaluate options, consider community input, and ensure that any future changes serve the best interests of our students and families. During the coming school year, we will continue this work and expand opportunities for stakeholder participation so that a broader range of voices can help shape potential solutions.

While daily school schedules will remain unchanged this year, some transportation-related adjustments will still be necessary to help manage escalating costs. These changes may include modifications to bus routes and stop locations. We are currently finalizing those plans and will share additional information with families in the coming weeks.

We want to be clear that addressing transportation efficiency remains an important district priority, and future changes may still be needed. However, we are committed to moving forward in a way that is transparent, thoughtful, and informed by meaningful community involvement.

Thank you to everyone who has shared feedback and participated in this process. Your engagement is appreciated and will continue to play a vital role in the work ahead.

Sincerely,
Kingston City School District
