Mahamuda Tasmi has been named the recipient of Kingston High School’s Principal’s Award, recognizing her outstanding leadership, academic achievement, and commitment to service both within and beyond the school community.

Tasmi has challenged herself academically throughout high school, completing more than 10 Advanced Placement and college-level courses. She will also graduate with the New York State Seal of Biliteracy in Bengali, reflecting her proficiency in multiple languages.

A dynamic student leader, Tasmi serves as president of Student Government, National Honor Society, and Peer Court, and is the founder and president of the school’s Muslim Student Alliance. She is also an active member of PBIS, Science Olympiad, Academic WorldQuest, Key Club, and more, demonstrating her commitment to both leadership and collaboration.

Outside of school, Tasmi has pursued a range of experiences, including internships in both scientific research and law, as well as work as a tutor. Most notably, she founded a nonprofit initiative in Bangladesh, where she organized free medical clinics, distributed medications, and led educational outreach efforts for students. She also coordinated community health efforts to combat mosquito-borne illness by organizing regular spraying initiatives.

Following graduation, Tasmi plans to attend college on a pre-dental track, majoring in biology, with the goal of becoming a dentist and opening her own practice.

Reflecting on her high school experience, Tasmi emphasized the importance of getting involved. “Clubs and extracurricular opportunities at school are one of my favorite things,” she said. “That’s where I made most of my friends, got out of my shell, and pushed myself to take on leadership roles, try new things, and grow.”

She also offered advice for younger students: “If you have a goal, keep trying no matter what—nothing is impossible. If you put your mind to it, you’ll be able to achieve it.”

Principal Dr. Rachael Scorca described Tasmi as a dedicated and compassionate leader whose impact extends far beyond the classroom. “Tasmi is an exceptional student leader who is involved in so many areas of our school community,” she said. “What stands out most is her humility. When I told her she had been selected, she was genuinely surprised and immediately spoke about how deserving last year’s recipient was. That’s who Tasmi is—someone who doesn’t seek recognition, but is always there to give.”

Congratulations, Tasmi! Your dedication to Kingston High School, school spirit, and our community makes you a truly deserving recipient of the 2026 Principal’s Award.
