•  Dear JFK Families,

February was yet another exciting month for us at JFK!  We had visitors from the New York State Education Department, we started our partnership with Kingston High School and the Today’s Students, Tomorrow’s Teachers tutoring program, we celebrated the 100th Day of school, we filled the school with spirit and love during Kindness Week, we celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday at the Barnes & Noble Bookfair and we learned and celebrated so much during Black History Month!

I am excited to share that on March 5th we brought back the JFK A.M. Walking Club. The Walking Club meets from 8:30-8:45 on A/C/E days on the blacktop area behind the school. Students can join when they arrive, after they finish breakfast or as they get off the bus – all are welcome!

This month we will be adding a new feature to the JFK website. Each month there will be a video to help families better understand challenging Math concepts that students are learning. March’s video covers plotting fractions on a number line (a 3rd Grade topic). We’re open to any video topic requests!

All 3rd & 4th grade students will be getting ready for the ELA & Math State Tests which they will be taking in April & May. The assessments will be administered on: ELA Test- April 2nd, 3rd & 4th - Math Test- May 1st, 2nd & 3rd.  Especially on testing days, it is crucial for students to get a good night’s rest, eat a healthy well-balanced breakfast and arrive to school on time.  Also, please make sure that students that wear eye glasses bring them on testing days.

    A few more reminders:
Make attendance a priority! Let your child know that unless they’re sick, they must go to school. Try to schedule all appointments after school hours.

Make sure students arrive at school on time EVERYDAY!  The school day begins at 8:55 am. All students should be at school by 8:45 am. Any student that arrives after 8:55 am will be marked late and this will be reflected in your child’s attendance report.

We believe that recess and outdoor play are important and we send students outside whenever possible. Please send your child to school in a warm coat, hat and gloves. If your child needs any of these items, please call me, Nurse Mitzel or our Social Worker, Ms. Herbert.

If you haven’t done so already, please sign up to receive school text message updates using Remind. To sign up, simply text the message: @jfkpride to the number: 81010. At the beginning of January I started an Instagram account called “100DaysAtJFK” where I post one positive thing each day (#100daysofpositivity). Feel free to follow along!
