Senior Tax Exemption
The Kingston City School District (KCSD) Board of Education has approved an expansion of the Senior Citizen Property Tax Exemption, increasing income eligibility and providing additional tax relief for qualifying homeowners age 65 and older.
This update aligns KCSD with Ulster County’s income thresholds and extends the maximum income level for eligibility from less than $28,400 to less than $50,000, with exemptions ranging from 5% to 50% of assessed value. This change means more eligible senior citizens will qualify for the exemption and those already receiving it will see an increase in the benefit.
Who Qualifies
To be eligible, homeowners must be 65 years of age or older; own and occupy their home as a primary residence within the Kingston City School District; meet the updated income eligibility guidelines outlined below; and meet all requirements as outlined by the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance.
