    Credit recovery is a term used to describe educational strategies and programs that give high school students who have failed a class the opportunity to redo coursework or retake a course through alternate means—and thereby avoid failure and earn academic credit.

    What do you mean by "building our capacity"?

    Capacity building refers to any effort being made to improve the abilities, skills, and expertise of educators.

    What is the Cohort Model at KHS?

    A cohort refers to a group of students that enter a program together and remain together throughout its duration. The cohort model enhances the speed of learning while encouraging both academic and professional success.

    What is a SIFE program?

    (SIFE stands for Students with Interrupted Formal Education.)

    English Language Learners (ELLs) who have attended schools in the United States for less than twelve months and who, upon initial enrollment in school, are two or more years below grade level in literacy in their home language and/or two or more years below grade level in Math due to inconsistent or interrupted schooling prior to arrival in the United States.

    What will a 1-to-1 technology program look like?

    KCSD plans to expand the cirriculum to include the use of Chromebooks.  We will give teachers more training on these programs so that these devices can be used at tools for student success.  The goal is to have a Chromebook for every student in KCSD to use for the school year.

    What is Differentiated Instruction?

    Differentiated instruction - or differentiation - is a framework or philosophy for effective teaching that provides all students within a diverse classroom a range of different avenues for understanding new information in terms of: acquiring content; processing, constructing, or making sense of ideas; and developing teaching materials and assessment measures so that all students within a classroom can learn effectively, regardless of differences in their ability.

    What is Response to Intervention (RTI)?

    Response to Intervention (RTI) is a multi-tier approach to the early identification and support of students with learning and behavior needs. Struggling learners are provided with interventions at increasing levels of intensity to accelerate their rate of learning. These services may be provided by a variety of personnel, including general education teachers, special educators, and specialists.

    What is Academic Intervention Services (AIS)?

    Academic Intervention Services (AIS) is additional instruction which supplements the instruction provided in the general curriculum and assists all students in meeting the State's learning standards. The NYS Education Department mandates that all schools provide Academic Intervention Services (AIS) which supplements the general curriculum instruction to assist students in meeting the New York State learning standards, as well as student support services which may include guidance, counseling, attendance, and social-emotion learning.
