The Kingston City School District Accelerated Program begins in Grade 7 with an opportunity for students to take both Grade 7 and Grade 8 Math in one year. In Grade 8, students have the opportunity for high school credit in art and/or music. Additionally, Grade 8 students can take accelerated high school level Math and Science curricula culminating in the Algebra Common Core Regents and the NYS Earth Science Regents at the end of that school year. The opportunity to take English and Social Studies Honors courses begins in Grade 9 with English 9 Honors and Global History 9 Honors.
Students must be recommended for acceptance into the Accelerated and/or Honors courses using the specific criteria outlined below:

Grade 7
Accelerated Math- (2 out of 3)
Winter 2020 STAR Math score 830+
Teacher Recommendation
NYS Math Grade 5 -Score 4 (of levels 1-4)
Grade 8
Regents Algebra
All students currently taking Accelerated Math in Grade 7 will automatically be placed into Regents Algebra upon teacher recommendation.
Students currently in grade 7 math will meet the following criteria: (2 out of 3)
85% Common Assessment Average
Teacher Recommendation
NYS Math Grade 6 score 4 (of levels 1-4)
Regents Earth Science (4 out of 5)
85% Common Assessment Average in Science 7
85% Common Assessment Average in Math 7 or Accelerated Math
Winter 2020 STAR Math score 830+
Teacher Recommendation
NYS Math Grade 6 score 4 (of levels 1-4)
Studio in Art (3 out of 3)
Report card Average of 85% or greater in General Art
Teacher Recommendation
Guidance Recommendation
Voice 1A (3 out of 3)
Report card Average of 85% or greater in General Music

To Enter into an Honors Program beginning in 9th grade, the following criterion must be met:
ELA and Global Studies (4 out of 5)
85% Common Assessment Average
Winter 2020 STAR score 1114+
NYS Grade 7 Assessment (top 15%)

To Enter into ELA Honors Courses (10th-11th Grade) or Honors Global Studies in 10th Grade (2 out of 2)
85% Common Assessment Average

To Enter into Honors Science Courses in 9th-12th grade and Honors Math in 10th-12th Grade (2 out of 2)
85% Common Assessment Average
Teacher Recommendation
To Maintain Honors (all subjects) 9th-12th Grade (2 out of 2)
