KCSD Budget Vote & Board of Education Election

PLEASE DO NOT PLACE BALLOTS IN A DROP-BOX AFTER JUNE 9TH AT 5:00PM. THEY WILL NOT BE COUNTED.
In accordance with Executive Order No. 202.26 from Governor Cuomo, the Budget Vote and School Board Election will be held remotely, by Absentee Ballot only. Registered voters in the Kingston City School District will receive absentee ballots by mail with return postage-paid envelopes.
On June 7, 2020, Governor Cuomo extended the budget vote and board election mail-in ballot deadline to June 16, 2020 (extended from June 9 in Executive Order 202.39, sections 2018-a and 2018-b). Reference Executive Order 202.39 HERE or see below.
*Ballot drop-box votes must be received by June 9, 2020 at 5:00PM.
Locked ballot drop-boxes are available at each of our school buildings and central offices to submit your vote by 5:00PM on Tuesday, June 9, 2020.

Sections 2018-a and 2018-b of the Education Law, to the extent necessary to allow any absentee ballot for an election held on June 9, 2020 and received by mail in the office of the clerk of the school district or designee of the trustees or school board not later than June 16, 2020 to be canvassed for such election. No ballots for such election shall be accepted by the clerk of the school district or designee of the trustees or school board after 5 p.m. on June 9, 2020 except those received by mail in accordance with this provision. Any receptacle used for hand delivery of absentee ballots in such election shall be closed and removed at 5 p.m. on June 9, 2020; The ballots therein shall remain unopened pending delivery of mailed ballots, and shall be removed and canvassed after 5 p.m. on June 16, 2020

The Kingston City School District Board of Education has adopted a proposed budget in the amount of $187,420,013.00 for the 2020-2021 school year that carries a 1.73% tax levy increase and meets the New York State tax levy limit calculation. It is the goal of the Kingston City School District to design a budget that balances the needs of the students with the needs of the taxpayers. This budget will maintain all academic, extracurricular, athletic, art and music programs as well as AP & College courses, and all high school electives; continue the district’s commitment to smaller class sizes in Grades K-2; keep all social and emotional, mental health and wellness, and restorative practice support and offerings; continue the district’s commitment to technology.

Proposition 1 - 2020-21 Budget:
Shall the Board of Education of the Kingston City School District, Ulster County, New York, be authorized to expend the sums of money which will be required for school district purposes for the 2020-2021 School Year, in the total amount of $187,420,013.00 (the Budget), and to levy the necessary sum against the taxable real property in the School District.No other propositions will be on the ballot this year.
Election of Board of Education Trustees:
Vote for any three (3). Three (3) members for 3-year terms, from July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2023.
