General Music is the foundation of a well-rounded music education. The general music curriculum allows students to create, perform, and respond to music in the classroom setting. General Music classes are taught by various music teachers in the JWB Music Department.
5th and 6th Grade:
Students in 5th and 6th grade general music will explore topics such as rhythm, melody, movement, musical instruments, music literacy and terminology, world music, recorder (5th grade), and ukulele (6th grade).
Students in 7th grade general music will use their knowledge and skills from previous years of music and apply it to various topics and units. Topics include (but are not limited to) a Musical Skills Review, The Slave Era, Blues, Jazz, African Drumming and Culture, Movie Music, and Musical Theater.
