  • Bookmobile Takes Off at JWB!

What do you do when the library has to be closed for testing and students can't come in to check out books? Well, if you are JWB Librarian, Mrs. Polack, you bring the library to the students! Mrs Polack and her amazing library staff loaded up a cart with books and visited classrooms to provide students the opportunity to check out a book even while the library was closed. One happy student said that it was "like Door Dash for books!". By the end of the day, over 100 books had been checked out. Mrs Polack and her Bookmobile will be back out on Tuesday, May 2nd!

  • Battle of the Books

    Champions

Battle of the Books 2023 has concluded and our very own Team Tiger Warriors, representing JWB's 5th and 6th Grade class, emerged victorious with a final score of 40-35! Congratulations to our students and coach Fina and Lasher! And while our 8th grade team, The Gnosey Gnomes, did not get the win in their bracket, they still put on an amazing performance and were only 2 points behind! Awesome job students and coach McCann! Thank you coaches and JWB Librarian, Mrs. Polack, for your continued dedication to our students and thank you to MCM principal, Mr Sheber, for hosting the event!

  • JWB Students Level Up Their Artistic Skills

Students in JWB Art Teacher, Ms McNaughton's Art classes got a chance to combine their creativity and critical thinking skills to design and make their own games. The project started off by talking about game strategy and types of games. Students had to make everything from scratch-- the board, the cards, the characters, and the dice and spinners. They had to decide what materials to use, including cardboard, clay, paint, and other miscellaneous items. Students had to create and write the directions and present the games to the class before they played. The game designs were based on collaboration between group members, and they had to learn to listen and reflect on their team mates' suggestions.

  • JWB Hosts Battle of the Books!

Students at JWB have spent weeks rigorously reading and discussing books in preparation for the annual Battle of the Books competition. Teams for each grade level worked with teachers as they prepared to square off in competition to see which team is able to accurately answer the most questions about their respective books. During the competition, parents and guardians were invited in to watch and celebrate the participants. The culminating activity will be a Book Battle between the winning team for JWB and the winning team from MCM. Thank you to JWB Library Media Specialist, Mrs Polack and the teacher captains for providing this awesome learning activity to our students! bob1

  • JWB Lucky Bulldogs

This year the JWB PBIS team sought to create a program in which they could raise the spirits and morale of our students. Their efforts have led to the creation of the Lucky Bulldog drawings. Every Wednesday, two students are selected from each grade and then announced as our Lucky Bulldogs. These students receive a sticker indicating their Lucky Bulldog status as well as the chance to select from the prize box. The positive impact of "winning", and the recognition from having your name announced during the morning announcements, has already created a positive vibe in our schools and we have had over 80 Lucky Bulldogs since December.

  • Students in Corina Moot, Denee McGrath, and Nicole Giebelhaus' 5th Grade class used STEM skills to design and build a massive gingerbread house. Students had to figure out volume, design floor plans, understand and create different solutions for the frosting, figure out perimeters, and other important pieces to make sure their gingerbread house was as stable and sturdy as it was beautiful! • On Thursday, October 27th, faculty and staff at JWB were excited to welcome the return of the annual Staff Dodgeball Game! The dodgeball game is not only a great opportunity for students to have fun watching their teachers and school staff "let their hair down" and play a game for the students' entertainment, it serves as a way to give back to the JWB community--traditionally funds raised from the game go to support the Vincent Loughlin Scholarship Fund!

Thank you to the amazing Ms Sass, Mrs Crantz, Coach Munger, and Mrs Morrison for organizing the game! And of course, thank you to the amazing faculty and staff at JWB for providing our students a wonderful afternoon of laughter.

  • 7th Grade students in Ms Yannucci and Mrs Harrison's Math class  enjoyed some friendly competition as they practiced the concept of combining signed numbers with a card game. Strategies develop quickly as students see the results of drawing (adding) & discarding (subtracting) positive & negative valued cards.

Seeing and applying math concepts in novel ways such as this has been shown to greatly enhance student comprehension and retention.

  • This school year marked the return of field trips and JWB's 5th graders were treated to a wonderful outdoor experience courtesy of Wild Earth! Throughout the end of September and the beginning of October, groups of 5th graders traveled to an outdoor classroom maintained by Scenic Hudson and experienced hikes, talks about making shelters, and other outdoor activities. Our students had an amazing time and we are grateful for Wild Earth's continued commitment to our school community.
