Character Education
Citizenship is just one part of the Character Education Program at George Washington. Please take a look at the special way our students recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
Welcome Message from our Principal
The George Washington School welcomes you. I hope the school's web pages are a help to you in your tour of GWS. GW is a diverse community which celebrates the many different students who attend school. We are a neighborhood school where the majority of our students walk to school. Our school is the showcase elementary building with wonderful auditorium, gymnasium and cafeteria facities and services. We have an large playground as well as a constructed play area.
Academics are the primary focus at GWS. We have been making steady progress in pursuit of New York's educational standards. We have taken up the challenge of the new standards which have moved the bar higher and I am proud of the efforts of our students and staff. We are always trying to improve on our past performance.
In the current climate we also take every precaution to ensure our children's safety. Our Safety Committee meets on a regular basis to review our practices and procedures regarding a safe and orderly environment. We ask all visitors to sign in and get a visitors pass. We keep our doors locked after 9 a.m. except for our front door. In our lobby is the sign-in location and security desk.
I hope this web site will become a gateway through which we can share information between home and school. Enjoy your cyberworld visit with us and the links to other sites we've provided. I look forward to a sharing of ideas, information and comments.
