Sophie Finn Elementary School Welcome to our school website. We hope you will continue to use the site to learn more about our school. Sophie G. Finn School was originally open in 1962 as a neighborhood school to serve the midtown and Rondout areas of our city. Closed in 1986 it was reopened in 2001 as a pre-k through fifth grade elementary school. Sophie G. Finn serves children of diverse background that represent our greater Kingston community. Sophie G. Finn prides itself on a reputation as a small, friendly and open neighborhood school. We have a school building that reflects the shared responsibilities of parenthood and public education. Teachers, parents and community “together we can all make a difference.” Sophie G. Finn has been designated as a “High Achieving School” by the state education department for its continued success in the New York state assessments in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies and Science. Our school report card reflects the excellent academic progress we have made over the past four years. Additionally, at Sophie G. Finn, we also concentrate on building the best school citizens we can through our Character Education program and school activities. Our students are school and community volunteers providing service to those in need as well for the general benefit of our school and city. The students also get to attend social events and participate in special activities that allow each student to grow in real life experiences. We’re proud to be the Finn “Little Tigers”! Check us out.
