Frank L. Meagher Elementary School Frank L. Meagher Elementary School is located near Kingston Hospital and the City Hall Building. Meagher Elementary is the oldest operating elementary school in the Kingston City School District. Our school building has an abundance of character and history…tin ceilings, oak doors and several different floor levels. The building was first constructed in the late 1800’s and several generations of Meagher families have attended our school. Meagher is known as the “school that cares”. The school mascot is an owl, and our school slogan is: “Meagher gives a hoot!” Our staff is proud to continue the tradition of keeping Meagher Elementary a small, neighborhood school. Since our school population is relatively small (approximately 300 students), and most students walk to school, staff members get to know all the students, most of the parents, and the overall school atmosphere is warm and friendly. State assessment scores continue to show that our students perform overall exceptionally well, and our school has been ranked over the years as one of the top performing in English Language Arts and Mathematics in the mid/lower Hudson Valley. Our school provides many academic support services to students of need in all grade levels. Such services include team teaching, a “Humanities Block” for grades 2-5, multi-sensory instruction, listening centers and much more. In addition, we practice a well-established character education program which includes school currency (“Owl’s Dollars”) that students can earn and spend at the school store. The school store only accepts “Owl’s Dollars” and sells a large selection of school supplies, school shirts, book bags and an extensive book selection. Students are encouraged to be good citizens and are expected to follow the school pledge: As a Responsible citizen of Meagher, I pledge to…
As part of conflict resolution, students in grades three through five have the option of being trained in and/or participating in peer mediation.
