June Schedule Information for Parents
Physicals for all student athletes take place this summer. Call the KHS health office at 943 3742 for details & an appointment.

Please be aware of the Regents Exam & transportation schedule for June 13-21. Commencement is 5:00pm Fri June 22 at Dietz Stadium. Elementary students will be on a 1/2 day schedule Mon June 18 - Thu June 21. Dismissal is at 12:30pm, and lunch will NOT be served.

Edson Elementary School Dances to the Beat of West Africa
“Kids have been 0607news_edsondrums.htmtalking about Africa non-stop; their connection with the country really increased." That's the observation about the recent celebration of African culture and life at the Harry L. Edson Elementary School. Master drummer and dancer Moustapha Diedhiou from Senegal, West Africa spent two weeks in an arts residency at the school providing youngsters with an experience they won't soon forget.

Some Good News to Share
Mrs. Theresa Augustine, a fourth grade teacher at Zena Elementary School, was recently inducted into the Delta Kappa Gamma Society for outstanding teachers. She was one of six such teachers inducted, and the only one from the Kingston City School District. Congratulations!

Board of Education NYSPRA AWARDPresident Christopher Farrell and Trustee Maureen Bowers accepted the New York School Public Relations Association (NYSPRA) Award of Excellence for the District's May 2006 Community Newsletter on Health & Fitness during the recent NYSPRA Communications Contest Awards Luncheon held in New York City. Teacher of the Year Honors for Ms. Wolfersteig
KHS Alumna Teaches at JW Bailey Middle School

"I believe it's necessary to be involved...to teach by example," says June Wolfersteig, Home and Careers teacher at JW Bailey Middle School. That philosophy, put into practice every day, is just one of the reasons she was named Teacher of the Year by the New York Association for Family and Consumer Science Educators.

A former tailor and home decorator, Ms. Wolfersteig graduated from SUNY Oneonta. She is also the co-advisor for the Helping Hands Club, a member of the Character Education Committee and the Building Leadership Team (BLT), and helps to make and obtain costumes for the High School plays.

KINGSTON PRIDE: Four Kingston High School Students are National Merit Semifinalists
KHS seniors Eleanor L. Davis, Arune A. Gulati, Dana N. Moyer and Jarett D. Schwartz were recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation for their outstanding performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Eleanor, Arune, Dana and Jarett competed against more than 1.4 million students in 21,000 high schools throughout the country to be eligble for 8,200 merit scholarship awards worth $33 million that will be offered next spring. The pool of candidates represents less than 1% of all high school seniors. Congratulations!
