2009-2010 School Year

Calendar Change:
Because of changes to the New York State testing program, there is a change to the school calendar. Superintendent's Conference Day scheduled for Friday, April 23, 2010 is now a full day of school. Superintendent's Conference Day is rescheduled to Wednesday, May 12, 2010.

Bailey Students Remember Troops Overseas and Kids at Home
The students, faculty and staff of JW Bailey Middle School sent messages to service members in Afghanistan, and collected toys for children close to home in December.

KHS Senior Seminar Art

The extraordinary talent of Senior Seminar students was on display at Dutton Gallery this past weekend as the culminating event of a collaboration with the Women's Studio Workshop. In preparation for their collaborative work in WSW's studios, students have observed, discussed and analyzed a variety of 20th and 21st century artwork, considering different approaches used by artists to visually express identity.

Project LEAD Challenges KHS Students
A select group of Kingston High School (KHS) sophomores where recently invigorated by a field trip to IBM’s Project LEAD at the corporation’s Poughkeepsie campus, where an interactive forum enabled local business professionals to share key leadership tools with students. Four KHS students joined over 65 tenth grade students from 16 high schools in Dutchess, Ulster, and Orange Counties.

Ninth grade students and parents begin the new year thinking about the next school year, as planning for 10th grade course work begins with the Kingston High School Guidance Department.

The Fascinating Longhouse
The excavation of American Indian villages in our region have fascinated generations of school children, including the youngsters in Mrs. Tocher and Mr. Brown's class at JFK Elementary School. Working together in the same cooperative spirit that tipified the social organization of the most early settlers, the students built a replica of a Longhouse home.

KHS Guidance Counselor Alan Aidala Honored with Award of Excellence
Alan Aidala, guidance counselor at Kingston High School for the past 20 years, was recently honored with the Mid-Hudson School Study Council’s Award of Excellence for Pupil Personnel Services. His sage advice, easygoing nature, and ever-present sense of humor have enabled him to reach multiple generations of students and inspire them to higher levels of achievement.

Child Nutrition Grant Aids District in Providing Fresh Food to Students
Serving students the fresh, nutritious food they need for healthy bodies and minds, as well as a productive day at school, requires specialized serving line equipment in the cafeteria. This year, the Kingston City School District launched a new food service program aimed at giving students a variety of healthy choices and more options for those with dietary restrictions.

Montessori Program Continues Successful
Phase-In

Our bus drivers safely transport more than 6,000 students through 273 different routes in all kinds of weather to and from school each day. Safety is #1. Drivers, please remember that passing a stopped school bus with lights flashing is dangerous --- and illegal.

Two Kingston Athletes to Play Division I Baseball
Both Credit Coach Groppuso
Two talented Kingston High School graduates—Teddy Bickert and Matt Petro—will begin their collegiate careers playing Division I Baseball this fall, with both academic and athletic scholarships supporting them. Bickert signed a National Letter of Intent with NJIT, New Jersey’s Science and Technology University, and Petro will begin his collegiate career at Iona College.
