Overview
Ernest C. Myer School started as the "Hurley School." It was renamed after Ernest Christian Myer who had served from September, 1942 to June, 1973 as teacher/principal.
The Hurley School/Ernest C. Myer School was erected in 1939. Since then, it has grown with two additions. In the 1953-54 school year, it became part of the Kingston City School District Consolidated.
The Ernest C. Myer Elementary School Mission and Vision
The Myer School is a professional child-centered learning community where all students are provided the opportunity to succeed as individuals and are inspired to become life-long learners. Students will develop respect for themselves and others in a diverse, safe, caring environment. We provide students and staff with resources to enrich teaching and learning. Academic excellence is achieved through innovative programs and quality instruction.
Our Motto
Myer World, a place to learn and grow.
Our Beliefs
- Each child is a unique individual who requires positive learning experiences and inspiration to succeed to the best of his/her ability
- Student achievement is directly related to family expectations and a collaborative partnership of students, school district and community
- Character education should be relevant to all students, broad based and integrated into the curricula
- A safe and nurturing environment is critical to student and staff success
- Creative assessment methods should be used to evaluate the effectiveness of the teaching and learning process
