Anna Devine Elementary School Library Media Center

Welcome to the Anna Devine Library Media Center! The Anna Devine Elementary School, located in Rifton, New York, serves a student population of approximately 280 students. The Library Media Center houses 12,500 print media, 81 videos, 25 audio books, 15 periodical subscriptions, and four brand new computers.

Starting in preschool, the Anna Devine students are exposed to great literature through the operation of the 1000 Book Kid Club, a school lending library that promotes reading to our youngest community members. As kindergarteners, children meet our conscientious “Media Mouse” who lives in our library, and positively rewards proper library behavior, as well as gentle care of our books. Upper grades participate in the creation of Tall Tales, shape poetry, and video productions. Research techniques are stressed in the fourth and fifth grades, incorporating the new technology available.

Other special events include the “Junior Great Books” KALP program, two book fairs per year, author and storytelling visits, and participation in the Great New York Read Aloud, a program in which community members, such as the mayor and chief of police, are invited to share their favorite books with the Anna Devine students.
