The 102 men and women who are the Kingston City School District Buildings and Grounds Department take particular pride in providing a safe, comfortable enviornment in which to conduct the education of our community's young people.
Under the supervision of Bob Cunningham, the Director of Buildings and Grounds, the Team cleans, repairs, maintains and grooms 1.2 million square feet of building space, 31 acres of pavement on 240 acres of land at 17 campuses.
These skilled technicians include 22 mechanic/tradespeople, 78 custodial workers, 1 clerical worker and a director.
Their areas of expertise include asbestos abatement, auto mechanics, boiler mechanics, carpentry, cleaning, clerical, electrical, groundskeeping, locksmithing, mailing and printing, painting, plumbing, small engine mechanics, snow plowing and warehousing.
A Typical Day
Anything is possible and nothing is unusual in buildings ranging in age from 25 to 135 years occupied by more than 8,000 students and 1,300 staff as well as thousands of community members.
Besides fielding 100 phone calls a day to coordinate work, vendors, billing and requests, the work of the Building and Grounds department involves timely and effective response the needs of the district. These needs tap into a diverse spectrum of disciplines ranging from water wells to wiring to window repair, sewer pipes to burned out lights, and from no heat to over-heat. |
