Kingston is a small city of approximately 24,000 people. Located in the beautiful Hudson Valley of New York State, it is nestled at the foot of the Catskill Mountains. Settled in 1652, Kingston was the first capital of New York State, and is now the seat of Ulster County. The area, located approximately one hour south of Albany and two hours north of New York City, enjoys easy access via bus, train, and the New York State Thruway. Scenic New England is only a few hours away by car. The Hudson Valley is one of the most historic and scenic regions of the country.
The Kingston City School District includes not only the city itself, but also several surrounding communities. The District encompasses approximately 125 square miles and serves an enrollment of about 8,000 students. The resident population represents virtually all national and ethnic origins, each contributing to the richness of their heritage, forming a pleasant, diverse and progressive community.
The population of the district is a mix of white and blue-collar workers, for whom a quality education for their children is a priority. Housing consists largely of single-family dwellings reflecting a wide range of income levels. There are many modern apartment complexes, several town houses and condominiums in the Kingston area.
