Reading Recovery Reading Recovery is a research-based, short-term intervention of one-to-one teaching for the lowest achieving first graders
As soon as students can read and write at grade level and demonstrate that they can continue to achieve, their lessons are discontinued and new students receive individual instruction Reading Recovery is part of a district’s comprehensive literacy plan and serves as a safety net for first grade children who need support beyond excellent classroom instruction In the United States, there are 15,000 Reading Recovery Teachers in 8,700 elementary schools and 2,800 school districts. Reading Recovery in the Hudson Valley and Catskill Region The Kingston City School District has maintained a Reading Recovery Training Site since 1993. Over the past 16 years many area teachers have been trained.
Over 300 children in our area will receive Reading Recovery tutoring this year. The Kingston Reading Recovery site is affiliated with New York University’s Reading Recovery Project.
