Fall 2009 Athlete Information

Two Kingston Athletes to Play Division I Baseball
Both Credit Coach Groppuso

Two talented Kingston High School graduates—Teddy Bickert and Matt Petro—will begin their collegiate careers playing Division I Baseball this fall, with both academic and athletic scholarships supporting them.

Both students credit baseball coach Mike Groppuso with helping them to achieve their dreams. Groppuso, in turn, says these athletes set a great example for their younger teammates by working hard on and off the field.

This spring, Bickert signed a National Letter of Intent with NJIT, New Jersey’s Science and Technology University, and will receive scholarships worth $36,000 per year. Enrolled in the school’s Honors College, his scholarship breakdown is 75 percent academic and 25 percent athletic.

Petro will begin his collegiate career at Iona College. His scholarship consists of $6,000 athletic and $6,000 academic per year.

Coach Groppuso is anticipating another successful season. “With high school, you have a different team every year. Right now, we have a good nucleus of kids who are returning, and we are looking to build upon the success of last spring. As in the past, we will focus on the work ethic, dedication, and commitment of our athletes.”
