This past holiday season, the Spanish Honor Society at Kingston High School adopted an area family through “Family of Woodstock”. The family was down on their luck and the most helpful thing that the Spanish Honor Society could do was to make their Christmas the best that it could be. The family has five children – four boys and one girl.
Mrs. María DeCaro (Spanish Honor Society advisor) contacted a “Family of Woodstock” representative and obtained a list of sizes for clothing and other assorted items that the children would like for Christmas.
Chelsea Thompson (president), Audrey Denvir (vice president) and Angela Hubert (secretary) wrote letters to all of the Spanish Honor Society members, asking them to buy a specific item for the family along with a food item that they could donate as well.
A gift certificate for the family was purchased with donations by Mrs. DeCaro’s students so that the family could buy anything that the Spanish Honor Society had not already purchased for them.
On December 19, 2007, Mrs. DeCaro and several Spanish Honor Society members created a “Santa’s Workshop” in Mr. Tubby’s room so that they could wrap all the gifts and organize the food donations. At the end of 9th period, Mrs. DeCaro, the officers and a few members of Spanish Honor Society (including Linda Wang, Sarah Ramos and Pareesha Leitos) went to the “Family of Woodstock” office to deliver the items and to be interviewed by Kingston’s local Spanish newspaper “Las Noticias”.
